About us

At SR K9 Genie, we know dogs.  No matter your dog’s breed, personality, or temperament, we’ll have you saying, “I love my Amazing dog!”

We train dogs and their people.  In fact, seeing clients reach that ah-ha moment with their pets is one of the most rewarding parts of our day.

Every pet is an individual and every pet family is unique. As such, K9 Genie works to learn about you and your pet. Together we will create a plan specific to your situation.

Our positive training methods transform family pets into enjoyable companions. We do not use fear, pain, force or intimidation.  An experienced trainer will show you how to engage your dog in learning with a variety of games and fun exercises. Then, training is no longer a chore…it’s amazing fun for all!

About Tamre

I first became obsessed with dogs, dog training, and really the overall well-being of dogs and their humans while volunteering at the local animal shelter years ago. What’s really helpful about the shelter experience is that you learn about so many different dog breeds and dog personalities in short order. It would take a trainer starting out in the conventional sense many years to cross paths with the number of dogs and dog issues that we regularly manage in the shelter environment.

So why do dogs end up in the shelter? It is probably not what you think.  Simply put—most are owner surrenders. Why? Think about that for a moment. Puppies come into our homes as cute, fluffy bundles loved by all, no matter what.  As the pup grows and behavior issues escalate, the family tires of the naughtiness. Without training a dog will not know what we expect of him and will simply act, well, like a dog. What does that look like?  Jumping, chewing, barking, peeing wherever-you get the picture.

It does not take a huge effort to teach your dog a few manners…but it does take some effort. By emphasizing positive methods and by applying positive behavior techniques, any dog can become a wonderful canine companion.

After volunteering at the shelter for a few years I came to the realization that the best way to help dogs would be to keep them out of the shelters. It was then that I began my journey to become a certified trainer.

I started my formal studies and first attended then graduated from the Animal Behavior College. After graduation, I wanted more so I applied to the Karen Pryor Academy.  I was accepted to their program and after an extensive course of study I received my KPA CTP designation. For those of you not familiar with Karen Pryor’s work she was the pioneer of positive based training. Positive reinforcement principles can be used to change the behavior in pets, kids, anyone—without yelling, threats, force, punishment or pain.

I still regularly attend seminars and classes to continue my education and to ensure I am on top of the most current science based positive reinforcement techniques.  I come well equipped to help your dog make better choices. And better choices are what we want. “Do I chew on that shoe that Sam left on the floor or would my bone be a better choice?” I can design an effective program and management plan for all of your dog related challenges from A to Z. Together we can transition your dog into a wonderful family companion.

About Certification:

Certification does matter! Anyone can call themself a dog trainer.
However, there are several internationally recognized certification groups. The Karen Pryor Academy is one of the most prestigious in the world.
